Will Your Next Robot Take Care of Folding Your Clothes?

FoldiMate is a startup that is making a new breed of domestic robots that will take care of folding your laundry. This new machine will fold and treat most of your laundry (e.g. shirts, pants, towels), except for large items like linen or small items like underwear or socks. As shown in the Video 1 below, it can process multiple items, and fold them perfectly into a pile. It also can steam your cloths to reduce wrinkles, and spray perfume, or softening and sanitization liquids.

Unfortunately, you can not just hand it a basket with laundry. You need to clip each cloth on some kind of convoyer belt. Still, this simple task will take much less time than actually folding the clothes. And the promised resul looks professional, for the same price as a high end robotic vacuum cleaner ($700-$850). But, don’t expect getting yours now. Pre-orders will start in 2017, and first units will be shipped by 2018. The best alternative so far is to use a shirt folding board, like Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory series (see Video 2 below).
